Welcome to a new year! I hope you all had a lovely 2016 and are looking forward to an amazing 2017.
This year we are going to have ‘themed’ months so my Facebook Page (here) will be full of info about the topics and my website will have several posts with extra information too.
As happens with every New Year, it’s a time to get back into healthy eating after over indulging during the festive season and it’s a time to focus on thinking about improving over the next year. So to help you on your way January is all about healthy eating. I have already put a few healthy recipes on my Facebook Page so feel free to check them out, and I’ll add some more on here with some information about healthy eating.
To start off let’s talk about family meals. Why would we talk about eating as a family when we’re talking about healthy eating? Because a study conducted by the Journal of Epidemiology and Community Health showed that when a family sits down to eat together, the kids are more likely to have their recommended intake of fruit and veg as opposed to those who eat separately from their parents. It also showed that if the fruit and veg is cut up it will more likely be eaten and that kids will eat healthier if they see their parents eating healthily. The kids are more likely to have good eating habits, too. So make sure you’re trying to fit at least 3 family meals in a week (that’s the minimum amount for best outcome) and make sure you go for the carrot sticks instead of crisps and your kids will (eventually) too!
