The shoulder is actually made up of lots of joints that are linked together to allow your arm the maximum amount of moement. Correct shoulder motion depends upon all of these joints working properly and the precise synchronising of the surrounding muscles.
Most of us hae heard of a ‘frozen shoulder’ (painful stiffening of the fibrous capsule around the joint), but not this is not the cause of all shoulder pain. Many other conditions such as tendonitis, bursitis, impingement and muscle injuries can result in pain and stiffness.
