Adam Wilkey D.C. graduated as a Doctor of Chiropractic from the Anglo-European College of Chiropractic in 1988. He has spent most of his 30+ years of chiropractic working life in Oldham (with a few short gaps) serving the needs of the local community Adam has worked with the British Chiropractic Association and the National Back Pain Association (now Backcare) in both PR and educational roles to increase awareness of the potential causes and various evidence based treatments for back pain. In this capacity he has written numerous articles for national press and has appeared on television and radio on several occasions. He worked for a period with the British Red Cross as an educator in cultural diversity and acceptance.
From 2008-2009 Adam and his wife worked in Kenya as volunteers within the schools and orphanage of an educational charity. He was also active clinically providing treatment for musculoskeletal injuries in the region.
He has a special interest in the treatment chronic pain and spent 2 years with the AECC and a further period working with the local pain clinic and the chiropractic team at The University of Glamorgan studying the causes, treatment and rehabilitation techniques for patients suffering with chronic back and neck pain.
Recognising that many communities, particularly in developing world, do not have the same access to effective spinal care that we are afforded in the more developed nations, Adam began to look at ways in which he could utilise his knowledge and experience in promoting this aspect of health to a much broader ‘audience’. In 2014 He completed a Masters degree in Healthcare within regions affected by disasters. This ultimately led to him becoming involved with the charity World Spine Care. Their aim is ‘A world in which everyone has access to evidence based spine care’ (www.worldspinecare.org). Adam was instrumental in establishing the UK and European branch the charity, World Spine Care Europe. He now is part of the WSC executive and presides over WSCEurope. He now travels to many parts of the world to lecture, advise and train healthcare professionals and students and is active in research for back pain and treatment
Seven years ago he and his daughter Chelsea decided to participate in an annual event/challenge to raise money for charity. They have organised and participated, with his sons and other family members, in events, such as marathons, ultra marathon, timed mountain walks, and long-distance cycle rides, and now they organise an annual cycle ride through Europe, The Spine Ride.
Keen to follow his own advice Adam maintains a strict fitness routine by running cycling and swimming regularly. This coupled with 6 children and currently 5 grandchildren keeps him fairly well occupied.
